DEPARTMENT OF FOREST ESTABLISHMENT, SILVICULTURE AND ECOLOGY
The Department conducts research in the field of forest management, based on the concept of sustainability which implies harmonization of economic growth and development with the interests of environmental protection. The most important general objectives are to promote in- depth applied research, encourage expert opinion, develop critical and self-critical thinking and adopt the approach that aims at solving problems in the protection of forest ecosystems.
The research covers the following scientific disciplines that require both field and laboratory work:
Afforestation - Silviculture - Forest Ecology – studies in the following fields: natural regeneration, forest tending, land reclamation of coppice and degraded forests, climate change, forest resources, national and international legislation, geographic information systems, sustainable development, environmental monitoring and planning.
Phytocoenology – research studies of plant communities (phytocoenoses) as natural complexes;
Soil science – studies of soil and plant material for the needs of all projects in the field of forestry, landscape architecture, environmental protection, land reclamation and erosion control, which require the study of site conditions. Laboratory testing: chemical and physical properties of the soil and plant material.
